The best ways to break up a bad habit

Everyone of us has habits, some - good, some - bad. The reason that most of us lead a really busy lives creates many good opportunities for us to have bad habits. Some of our everyday bad habits can look insignificant and unharmful at first sight, but unfortunately they can bring us some huge problems further in life, if we don't recognize them on time.

Whether will be our tradition of being late, wearing the same clothes for years, listening the same music playlist again and again, smoking, or our late night binge eating, the list goes on. There are many kinds of bad habits because everyone is different. And they can damage not only our physical, but also our mental health. We unconsciously continue to do them and just cannot stop.

But why this happens and why it's so hard to get rid of our habits? One of the main causes are stress and boredom. In order to cope with our problems and our emotions connected with them, some of us resort to unhealthy activities that give us a temporary comfort and escape from the reality that doesn't satisfy us. So for this reason it is essential for everyone to find out their way how to manage stress and  what works for them. When you are happy and satisfied with your life, you are less likely to stick to your bad habits. Some people even do the things they don't want to just because they think it's cool and make them look more successful in life. The reason may be that this thing is a social norm. In this case, if we want to get rid of our habit, we have to find a healthy alternative of it.

In this article I will share with you some good tips how to deal with your bad habits.

Tip 1. Make a confession
The first step is to confess to yourself that you have this particular habit. This is probably the hardest part because sometimes we ourselves are the only enemies that prevent us from stopping that bad habit. We often have difficulty in accepting the fact that this habit gets in our way of achieving what we want. So taking the decision to really get rid of that bad habit is the first thing we should do. And it could not be destroyed completely, just substituted with a more healthy one.

Tip 2.  Make a list
The second tip is to make a list of the reasons why you want to quit your bad habit(s). Put it on a visible place so that you can see it everyday and use it as reminder every time you want to quit. Thnik about the reason why you started in the first place and what is the thing you want most. You have to realize that the bad habit is an obstacle towards achieving your goals.

Tip 3.  Share
This is probably one of the most effective tips that will work for everyone. Sharing what you want to achieve with a loved one can make you stick better to your goal, because you get someone as a "witness" to you plan. And they are likely to tell you to stop the next time they see you repeat this bad habit.

Tip 4.  Give yourself a reward
You should remember that you deserve a reward everytime you realize you improved and you are no longer repeating your bad habit that often. It's the same as  giving yourself a pat on the back and telling ''Well done! You deserve it." Rewards are important because they can help us keep being on the wagon. And if you fall from it, remember not to give up.

Tip 5.  See yourself as a winner
The method of visualization can be in fact really helpful. If you visualize yourself breaking that bad habit, imagine that you finally started saving some money for important things with a real value, not just some useless fashionable things, buying healthy food,  stopped smoking, etc. If you recognize the benefits that the new habit will bring to your life, then you are more likely to want to get rid of the bad one.
