Why we gamble even when we know it's wrong?

Gambling is one of the most popular activities that have been existing since a very long time. We all know that it leads to a horrible consequences and has the ability to destroy people's lives.

Some people get addicted very easily to gambling and feel complete loss of control, while others have the ability to resist the tempation for an excessive gambling. There is a statement that there is actual link between gambling addiction and drug abuse. Why this is true?

Gambling gives us a sense of risk, adrenalin or the so called ''high". We feel excited about the idea that we can win money in the next moment. Sometimes people get addicted to drugs or alcohol as a result of their gambling addiction because they feel remorseful about losing large sums of money. Some argue that people with gambling problems or drug addicts are just unable to overcome their real-life problems and thus they use gambling or drugs as a source of comfort.

It's a fact that when we lose, this often cause us to feel  anxiety, boredom and even depression. This may result in many job or family problems. So this creates something like a cycle. Our gambling losses urge us to search for a solution to the problem and unfortunately we turn to alcohol and drugs to achieve that "high" again and we cannot stop repeating this process. Gambling is even regarded as a way to relieve anxiety. Excessive gamblers believe that gambling is the solution to their problems no matter how often they lose.

A research in neuroscience have shown that one of the main reasons behind our inclination to develop addiction to gambling is the chemical called dopamine. In the middle of our brain there is a region called ''reward system'', which is responsible for motivation, movement, memory, pleasure. When we do something that gets us excited, neurons in the reward system produce dopamine, which give us the feeling of satisfaction.

When we get drugs continuously, our brain adapts to the effects of the dopamine and become less responsive to its effects. So gamblers and drug addicts share some common characteristics because they both are inclined to seek reward. The scientists concluded that gambling has a similar effect as drugs on the brain circuits responsible for reward.

If you are not one of these people that have problem with gambling but you are a fan of gambling and just do it occasionally, I would recommend you to visit one of the best gaming places in Bulgaria - Svilengrad. In this town you can find many casinos and gambling clubs, which offer many opportunities for fun. You can see their full reviews on the page of Svilengrad Casinos.

Whether gambling is wrong or not, nobody can deny the fact that the gambling industry is developing. I personally think that gambling is not one of the appropriate activities to relieve stress. They are many more, such as going out with friends, listening music, travelling, watching a nice movie, etc. (the options are endless).
