How to make your home ready to meet the winter straight on?

Christmas is already here and most of us are  getting busy with the home decorations. We all know perfectly that our homes must be well-cleaned before we start decorating. But there is the fact not many of us realize the possible damage that winter could do to our homes. Because we are turning up the heat, the himidity levels in our homes are high during the winter season.

The winter cold from outside combined with the humidity inside our home creates moisture. And the results is condensation. The ideal level of humidity in our home is about 35% in order that our home is safe and it's comfortable for us. And so it turns out the main enemy to our home is the moisture. That's not good because the high levels of moisture can create a variety of problems. Some of these problems can be mold for example. Mold is really a nasty thing to have in your house. It can appear on different places, some of which can be invisible for us. When we don't take care of mold on time, it continues to spread and can seriously affect big areas in our homes. In addition to this, it can be extremely harmful to our health. So, what we should do in this case?

One of the best options to get rid of a severe case of mold is to call to a professional mold removal company. One of the best companies out there is Dryfast. It provides plenty of mold removal services, it can detect the main source of mold and remove it permanently. Therefore, it's worthy to get help from a professional service because in this way you can save both time, money and effort.
In order to prevent it from appearing in the first place, it is advisable to take some measures.  Here is a list of some of the things we should do:

1. Heat it up
It's essential to make sure our heating system works properly.  Don't wait for the temperatures to get low, check in advance if your heating/ air-conditioning and venting system is in good working order. If you have a fire place, check whether it has some build-up or cracks in it. A well-heated home is less likely to get affected by mold in the winter time.

2. Check the roof
If you cannot climb on it, make sure to take a look at it with binoculars for example. Do this in order to see if it has some crevices, holes or damaged or loose shingles that can become the cause of leakage during snow melt or a winter storm. Also don't forget to check the chimneys and vents for some cracks or broken bricks and make sure they're well-sweeped.

3. Clean the gutters
If our gutters are blocked, this prevents the melting snow or rain to drain well. This may result in leaks in the house or damage its foundation. Check first if the downpipes are obstructed and unclog all of the gutters.

4. Look inside your home
Check the windows and door frames in your home for some gaps and seal them if they need it and also see whether your ceiling has any wet spots. It's recommended to use silicone caulk because it can be used on the exeterior and it's most resistant to all kinds of weather. Check whether your home has a proper insulation and perform repairs if needed. The ducts should work properly. Also many of our daily activities, such as cooking, taking the shower, washing the dishes or cleaning, produce humidity. We can reduce the moisture levels by running exhaust fans.

So, after we have finished with our important task and have examined and fixed our home, we are ready to  enjoy the cosy Christmas moments ahead of us.
Happy Holidays!
